So Little Time.

I freaking love reading my SI evaluations. Bahahahaha.

They make me smile and remind me I’m good at something, ahaha.

GW2: Kickstart on Saturday @ Midnight.

The plan is to enjoy the first day, by playing pretty much 24 hours straight. And then… opening my eyes, stepping outside, and getting back to studying.

But what a glorious 24 hours it will be…

(Eff having a midterms and finals the first week of GW2.)

Discovering that L-Aspartate, Malate, and Oxaloacetate have the same carbon skeleton, and only differ at their Alpha-Carbons!

It explains the Malate-Aspartate shuttle’s efficiency!

And why transamination reactions with Aspartate are so versatile with the TCA cycle!

//End geek-out.

Holy shit I fixed the A/C.

Riverside just became that much more tolerable.

My life update: Mid Summer 2012

It’s frightening, but it’s also quite the exhilirating thought.

Those of you that know me out in the real world, know that I am always working, and that I have very little time for play. I mean, I do it anyway, but I always end up paying for it.

I have so little time for the pleasures of life, but you also know that I find joy in my work and in my studies.

I’m a (soon-to-be) 3rd Year Neurosci major at UCR, and wow, things are moving fast.

In less than 6 months, I’ll have taken the MCAT, and that day will be happily marked with celebrations.

In less than a year, I will have sent out my AAMCAS to all of the medical schools I’m interested in. Frightening a thought actually. (Sometimes I wake up and go: “Shit, why am I in bed, I need to be writing essays/proposals/getting letters of rec/studying/etc…”)

You know what else is worrisome?

I keep finding myself with a new job. Ahaha.

I was at the hospital tonight (well, last night, technically; 7-11pm shifts baby) and I was watching a surgeon operate on a foot in the OR. Well, I must have asked a few correct questions, and it seems like he noticed surgery was my thing.

“You know,” he nonchalantly mentions to me mid-foot-slicing/dicing, “I’m operating on a pancreatic cancer patient in a couple of weeks, and that might be cool for you to watch.”

My metaphorical dog’s tail went up in excitement. “Is that an invitation?” I asked.

“Oh yeah, you just need to talk to my nurse and assistant, and they’ll get you set up to start shadowing me.”

Friends, Family, Colleagues, I hadn’t spoken with this man for more than 5 minutes, and he offered me his shadow. Awesome.

But that’s another job in life, is it not?

I’m done with CCE in 2 more shifts… oh how my luck turned when I met this doctor. Awesome.

Here’s a list of things I’m doing in my life for the next 6+ months:

 • MCAT!
 • Student Run Health Clinic
 • Shadowing Dr. N. the surgeon.
 • HPAC Peer Mentor
 • SI Peer Mentor
 • AMSA VPI
 • GMB Publicity Chair
 • HPACSoc Comms Manager
 • 3 Academic Classes…

And then there’s all the little life projects I have now:

 • Plan UCDavis trip with the team
 • Get the Zombie thing going for AMSA
 • Help Kanksha with her AMSA plans
 • Start writing Med School Personal Statements (Plural. Lol.)
 • Get fitter. Lol.

And I’m just so scared that (to use my dad’s old proverb) “I’m going to drop a watermelon.”

So I ask the lord and my friends to help, support, and give me the strength and resolve to keep pushing forward, as I go through hell, for the next, 6 months.

Yikes.

Finals Week: Saturday + Sunday

Studied at the library with some real old persian friends.

Came back here eventually, and we studied all night long, with caffeine nearby.

Downloaded GW2. Ha. Bad idea. Not only cause it cost me, but also ‘cause my laptop can’t freaking run it. Sad face.

Sunday morning, went with the good ol’ FPS team to the beach, and got some studying done.

Slept in a nice chair, ate a shit ton of food (over 3000 calories today), and got through a few molecular biology packets, all while in the company of a lot of good friends, most of whom are graduating and leaving me here. Ahaha. Again, the sad*.

And @Arthur, when I tell you, that if it weren’t for you and FPS (and partially Honors), my freshman year would not have been worth having, I mean it. Thanks a lot man.

Had a great time today. May the rest of finals week bless us all.

Week 10 + Finals is always so weird.

It shall never be standard. xP

This week in a nutshell:

Tuesday: Saw Venus pass over the Sun! Also got to spend a little while with Dr. M, Gina, Serena, and even my old Religious Studies TA (who is a total bawss). Dr. Maduro compared us two and said that we both work on a “nervous energy” that we perpetuate to our audiences, and that’s why we sound so similar when lecturing. Made me happy to hear him say that. Ahaha. I also told them I’d be coming back to join them in January of 2013, as soon as the MCAT is gone and done with. Oh, and I reminded him that I’m working with him as his SI this summer, and he was excited ahahaha. Yay.

Got to meet with the other SI Peer Mentors and discuss some new innovations that we might bring to the SI team. Also got to meet with the new Health Careers Student Council (HPACSoc), and I guess I’m going to be their communications coordinator, or something to that effect. Fun meeting.

Wednesday: Went for a morning run with Mr. Toop and Rebecca. Good run, calves feel perty good right now. Ahaha.

Thursday: Didn’t go to my CCV Shift. >.< I’m going to hell for that. I overslept. My DC hasn’t angry emailed me yet though… Went to Rivera Library, and studied two weeks of Psych in about 3 hours. God I hate that class. Also, 63 = D. Just, yeah. Nap, overnap, missed Rebecca’s ensemble =.

A few hours later, called up Soof + Arthur + gang, and went to see my first IMAX & 3D film: Prometheus. Notably, it was also my first movie in the “Alien” series. Good movie. I should also note, that I was, like, flying, for the first half of the experience, ahaha. After the midnight premiere, stopped by Krispy Kreme, omnom.

Friday: Woke up in time for Physics, but decided it was not worth my time to go. Le skip*. Went to Ochem, then SI-ed my last SI for this quarter. Lol. Never doing Learning Communities ever again. Got dinner with the gang once again, and watched some MLG LoL. In the middle of that, went and took a really easy Physics lab final. Cheers.

And on the way back from the 610? Highlight of my night. Rex got his ass skunked. >.< It reeks, and I probably got some on me, and whatever. I tried to minimize the damage. Bathed him, asap. Blargh. But the smell permeates to some extent no matter what…

Things to come! Beach trip Sunday with FPS and my favorite people who are graduating. Aadil is going to spend another finals week with me! =D Rex gets another bath! =3 Gonna study all day tomorrow. Hopefully. Lolz. Going to Honduras in a week! Omg so excite.

Oh, and I have also begun production on the UCR AMSA website. Updates to follow (eventually).

Everything I got. Sorry for the long read. (Assuming anyone read this! Ahaha.)

(God, crazy stuff always goes down these weeks.)

Level 60 attained.

Goodbye Diablo III.

It’s been a fun couple of weeks.

Ahahahahaha.

(Time to get back to actually working.)

UCR’s Jazz Band is playing Cowboy Bebop’s opening theme. I can die happy again.

I’ve been awaiting this photo a while.
Last Friday, after my interview with HPAC, I was walking back to my bike, when I heard a quick series of really, really, loud cracks.
Twas the sound of whips. WHIPS.
I went over, and believe it or not, they were UCR’s up and coming “Whip Club.”
Well, they let me play around for a while, and ladies and gentlemen, fyi, I know how to crack a whip. (I learned a long long time ago when I used to Karate.)
I spent the next 30 minutes shattering the sound barrier (and arguably my ear drums, and those of the people around me) between the OchemLabs and Life Sciences on Pierce Lawn.
I still got it baby.
(Props to a man named Joshua Rodstein for taking this picture for me.)

This actually happened today. I got pulled over by a cop, and it went something like this...
Cop: Son, do you have any idea why I pulled you over?
Me: Was I going too fast, Officer?
Cop: I just clocked you going at 50mph on a 30mph street. That's a dangerous speed when going downhill.
Me: ... I'm on a bike... I was going 50...?
Cop: Try to be more careful, and obey the speed limit.
Me: ... I'm on a bike...
Cop: Leaves* No ticket*
After all of this financial aid BS…

Finally got everything fixed. Getting back into my classes now…

And to top it off, I just received a refund check from UCR, for eleven dollars
